Bad credit doesn't have to mean no
If a bank, telco or buy-now-pay-later app has knocked you back, you're not alone, and it doesn't mean you can't get the phone, laptop or fridge you need. Six Star Rentals is a rent-to-own company: you pay a small fixed amount each week by direct debit, there's no big upfront payment, and at the end of your agreement the product is yours to keep. We assess every application on your situation today, and a past default on your credit file isn't an automatic no.
Centrelink income is accepted
Centrelink payments count as income for your application. If your total income, whether wages, Centrelink or both, is at least $500 a week, you can apply. Many of our customers pay their weekly rental from JobSeeker, Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment or the Age Pension.
We do check, and here's what that means
Yes, we look at your credit file. It's part of the responsible-lending assessment every rental company is required to do, and it protects you from taking on a payment you can't manage. What we don't do is treat one bad mark as the whole story. We look at your income, your current commitments and whether the weekly payment fits comfortably. If it does, there's a good chance we can say yes.
Small weekly payments, nothing hidden
Your weekly price is the whole price. No set-up fees, no delivery charge, no late-in-the-piece surprises, and we never take a payment after your agreement ends. Choose a 12- or 24-month term and you'll know exactly what leaves your account each week from day one.

Frequently asked questions
See our full FAQs →Can I rent to own with bad credit?
Often, yes. A bad credit history doesn't automatically rule you out with Six Star Rentals. We assess each application on your situation today: your income, your current commitments and whether the weekly payment fits your budget. If you earn at least $500 a week, have no current rental defaults and your loans are up to date, it's worth applying. We give everyone a fair go.
Do you do a credit check?
Yes, we check your credit file as part of a responsible-lending assessment, which every rental company in Australia is required to do. It isn't there to catch you out; it protects you from payments you can't manage. A past default or a low score isn't an automatic no. We're looking at whether the weekly payment is affordable for you now, not at mistakes from years ago.
Can I rent to own if Centrelink is my only income?
Yes, as long as your total income is at least $500 a week. Centrelink payments, including JobSeeker, Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment and Age Pension, are accepted as income on your application. You'll just need to show your income statement or bank statements so we can confirm the weekly payment fits.
Can I pay through Centrepay?
We set up a weekly direct debit from your bank account, timed to land just after your Centrelink payment, so it works in step with your income. Ask our team when you apply and we'll confirm the payment options available for your situation.
What if I've had a rental default before?
It depends on whether it's still current. If you have an unpaid, current rental default we won't be able to approve you. That's one of our few hard rules, and it's there to stop things getting worse. If the default has been paid or settled, tell us when you apply. We'll look at where you are now, not where you were.
What happens if I can't make a payment?
Call us before the payment is due. If your circumstances change, whether you lose hours at work or a bill lands at the wrong time, we'll work with you. That might mean moving a payment date or adjusting your plan. What we won't do is pile on fees or make things harder. It's part of the Six Star Promise.
Will applying affect my credit score?
Applying creates a credit enquiry on your file, like any application for credit or a rental. One enquiry has a small effect; lots in a short period can add up. That's why we recommend applying once, with your income details ready, rather than applying to several companies at the same time.
